Marmite switched to green energy and significantly reduces its environmental impact. From 1st July 2022, 100% of our energy comes from renewable resources.
The total reduction of GHG emissions related to our conscious decision is 8.3 thousand. tons of CO2 per year. This is as much as the forest with an area of 16 km2 absorbs annually.
Through to mid-2022, to manufacture an average Engineered Stone washbasin, Marmite had to provide electricity, which was responsible for the emission of 5 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Compared to the emissions related to the production of similar products made from ceramics, this 5kg of CO2 was already up to 70 times lower impact on the environment
1
1 tree needed about a year to absorb this amount of CO2.
Since July 2022, we have reduced our electricity related emissions by 100%.
Unlike Marmite, the production of 1 kg of ceramics in the firing process alone causes the emission of about 25-30 kg of CO2 from the combustion of natural gas.
This means that a standard ceramic washbasin is responsible for the emission of over 360kg CO2 before it reaches the customer.
It takes 60 trees to absorb this amount of greenhouse gases in a year
The basic ingredient of our material is crushed dolomite rock. It is completely natural and safe – it is a sedimentary rock that was formed 170 million years ago as a result of compression caused by the volcanic activity of the Earth.
Rock in combination with resin gives irreplaceable hardness and flexibility at the same time. This allows us to create beautiful shapes, but above
all, it ensures impact resistance and durability of the product during its many years of use.
Our material is easily recyclable. It can be reused in production of building materials or in road construction. From end 2022, 100% of our technical waste will be recycled.
