EVERY GREEN DECISION IS A GOOD DECISION AND WE HAVE JUST MADE ANOTHER ONE!
We are happy to announce that we have reached another milestone in our ESG journey. From 1st July 2022, 100% of our energy comes from renewable resources. Our goal is to be the most environmental friendly manufacturer in the industry.
100% Green Energy
All of our manufacturing and office power supplies comes from 100% sustainable natural resources. We have signed an exclusive deal with Respect Energy – one of the European pioneers in the field of clean energy trading, that buys energy only from sustainable energy producers. Respect Energy operates on 21 European markets, and in April 2022, the company entered the American energy trading platform Nasdaq Commodities. Marmite’s electricity supply will come entirely from wind farms, solar farms, hydropower plants and modern biogas plants. That means that none of our production sites or offices will produce any CO2. We have joined companies such as Ikea, Home Depot, Du Pont, TOTO or Mercedes, who all also secure 100% of their energy from natural resources.
We are constantly improving our technology and production procedures to minimalize the energy consumption required in our production cycle. This, combined with the fact that sustainable energy is priced the same as all traditional sources, means that despite globally growing energy prices, the cost of energy we use will be the same; however the environmental impact will reduce.
But…that’s not all: There are many more action we have taken to become more sustainable:
Eco responsible design
Each Marmite product is designed in such way, as to minimize the consumption of raw materials, reduce the volume of produced scrap and waste, and ensure that our products can be easily recycled.
Eco – packaging
We have changed the way we go about our packaging, by eliminating plastic foams and films, replacing them with a fully bespoke ‘made to measure’ packaging method, which gives the same quality of protection, but is fully recyclable.
More effective waste management
We found a way to recycle most of chemical components that are necessary for production. 80% of acetone and methylene chloride used during production is now recycled and returned to our plants as pure raw material to be reused. From 2023 we will recycle 100% of our manufacturing waste.
In 2021 we have implemented ISO 14001 – an internationally agreed standard that sets out the requirements for an environmental management system. It has become a core of our sustainability efforts and a source of valuable guidelines that help us to realise our goal.
